It's Monday, OP readers, and after a weekend filled with tributes to the life of former first lady Barbara Bush, we've just gotten word that her husband, former president George H.W. Bush, has been hospitalized with an infection . Family spokesman Jim McGrath said the 41st president was responding to treatments and appears to be recovering.

Thinking of you, Mr. President.

Mr. Macron goes to Washington

Monday kicked off French President Emmanuel Macron's visit to the United States, the first official state visit of the Trump presidency. It's set to be a busy trip, filled with presidential meetings, a joint press conference, a state dinner and a joint address to Congress.

But at least day one was reserved for a tree planting, a walk to the Lincoln Memorial and a date night at Mount Vernon.

Mike Pompeo advances

The Senate is set to vote this week on Mike Pompeo's nomination to be the next secretary of State, after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted in favor of the CIA director on party lines. The biggest surprise of the vote: Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., changed his mind last minute.

Who changed his mind? President Trump.

The senator said he had spoken with the president about Pompeo's support of the Iraq war and the U.S. presence in Afghanistan.

"Having received assurances from President Trump and Director Pompeo that he agrees with the President on these important issues, I have decided to support his nomination to be our next Secretary of State," Paul tweeted.
