| The State Department released its findings on an internal audit of email protocol yesterday, and the final 78-page report rebuked Hillary Clinton's use of a private server at length. The investigation said that Clinton never sought permission to use the private server, but that the concept never would have been approved. |
| The investigation noted that Informational Resource Management personnel shut down any questions about Clinton's setup, and that Clinton had expressed concern about "any risk of the personal being accessible" when her deputy chief of staff suggested releasing her private email to the entire department. |
| Meanwhile, the Clinton folks are pointing to the investigation's finding that more than 90 staffers under secretaries Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice were found to have used private email addresses to conduct official business as well - though protocols were "considerably more detailed and more sophisticated" by the time Clinton took over the office. (The investigation stretched all the way back to the early days of email use by the State Department, so we presume the earliest draft of protocols included "Stop forwarding that email about Bill Gates sending us all to Disneyland.") |

| House Speaker Paul Ryan, who's still holding out on endorsing Donald Trump for the presidency, spoke by phone with Trump in a private call Wednesday night. The call was expected to cover a basic blueprint for GOP congressional action if Trump wins the White House. Among the possibilities: replacing Obamacare, reining in the power of the presidency and reducing poverty, a pet project of Paul Ryan and also humanity itself. So does this mean a Ryan endorsement is forthcoming? "I don't have a timeline in my mind, and I have not made a decision ," Ryan told reporters. "Nothing has changed from that perspective and we're still having productive conversations." Still, calling each other up late at night, talking about the future ... we expect to see Paul shopping for a promise ring in the near future. |
