Two big 2016 revelations came to light Thursday:
1. The FBI's director said "it's possible" that Hillary Clinton didn't even know what a classified email could look like while serving as secretary of state, stating he didn't know if she was "particularly sophisticated" about classified information.
2. Donald Trump, a grown man, is mad that people aren't mad about a Disney "Frozen" coloring book with stickers.
Speaking for many of us, Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska declared in a statement that "our country is in a bad place and, with these two candidates, this election remains a dumpster fire."
We didn't start the fire. It's For the Record: the politics newsletter from USA TODAY.
FBI director: Yeah, uh, what Clinton told you may not be true
FBI Director James Comey got grilled Thursday by Republicans about his decision to not recommend criminal charges against Clinton for her use of a private email server while secretary of state.
Comey testified that Clinton didn't break the law, telling a House panel that a team of "all-star" investigators conducted an "apolitical" review in its decision. But Comey also detailed several FBI findings that contradict Clinton's past statements about her email use.
See this exchange between Comey and Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina:
Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said, "I did not email any classified material to anyone on my email, there is no classified material," was that true?
Comey: There was classified material emailed.
Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said she used just one device, was that true?
Comey: She used multiple devices during the four years of her term as secretary of state.
Gowdy: Secretary Clinton said all work-related emails were returned to the State Department. Was that true?
Comey: No, we found work-related emails, thousands, that were not returned.
It's possible Clinton, who hasn't held a press conference since 2015, will step forward to explain the contradictions.
Maybe, Comey said, the then-secretary of state just didn't understand that the emails were classified.
"I think it's possible, possible that she didn't understand what a (classified marking) meant when she saw it in the body of an email like that," Comey said.
"I don't think our investigation established she was particularly sophisticated with respect to classified information and the levels."
Either way, the State Department will now reopen its investigation into Clinton's email use, it announced Thursday.
Trump goes to DC to woo critics, embarrasses himself in the process
Trump tried to reassure critics within his party Thursday while speaking to Republican lawmakers on Capitol Hill, and things got awkward.
During a private meeting, Trump blamed his campaign's flaps on the media for reporting things he said, which include but are not limited to:

It's that last line that concerned Jeff Flake, McCain's fellow senator from Arizona and a critic of Trump's immigration proposals.
After Flake confronted him about his McCain comment, Trump threatened to attack Flake publicly and said Flake would lose his reelection bid.
Just one problem, Flake said: He's not even up for reelection.
"Very interesting day!" Trump later tweeted. "These are people who love our country!"
More from the campaign trail

Ivanka Trump for Vice President? Sure, we guess
Nothing could surprise us at this point, and Trump's family is entertaining the notion.
| Eric Trump said his sister should be one heartbeat away from the presidency because, like his dad, he thinks she's good looking:
"She's got the beautiful looks. She's smart, she's smart, smart, smart. Yeah, she's certainly got my vote." |
