| | The recent onslaught of rain and snow has ended the punishing drought in northern California, federal officials said Thursday. And for the first time since early 2013, less than 60% of the state is in a drought, according to the weekly U.S. Drought Monitor. At the same time a year ago, drought covered 97% of the state.
