It's the Monday of a short week, OP readers. But as we've already learned, that really means nothing.

So make like a turkey, subscribe and let's get to it.

The administration vs. Haitian earthquake victims

The 59,000 Haitians who have lived in the United States since a major earthquake struck their nation will have to return to the Caribbean in 2019. The Trump administration announced Monday that it was ending immigration protections for those people, after concluding that conditions have approved enough in Haiti for their return. (As a reminder, the earthquake in question killed 200,000 people and displaced hundreds of thousands more. The country was also struck by Hurricane Matthew last year.)

The immigrations protections are set to end in 18 months, which would allow people time to make arrangements to leave or "to seek an alternative lawful immigration status in the United States, if eligible," the Department of Homeland Security said.

Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle blasted the decision, with some suggesting the need for a legislative solution.

Trump v. North Korea, round infinity

President Trump said Monday that he plans to declare North Korea a state sponsor of terrorism. The move is meant to put pressure on the rogue nation for its nuclear weapons program.

This would be in addition to economic sanctions taken against North Korea. According to the president, the declaration is long overdue.

One thing to note, though: North Korea *was* considered a state sponsor to terrorism for 20 years. The George W. Bush administration removed the nation from the list as part of an agreement that ultimately failed.

More on Franken

Also on Monday: Another woman has accused Sen. Al Franken of sexual misconduct. Lindsay Menz told CNN that back in 2010, Franken pulled her closed and grabbed her buttocks while posing for a photo. The incident would have taken place during Franken's second year in the Senate.

The new allegations surfaced days after Leeann Tweeden said Franken stuck his tongue down her throat and later posed for a photograph, appearing to grope her while she slept. Both incidents took place in 2006, while Tweeden and Franken were on a USO tour.
