OnPolitics Today: Will Trump's fake news awards turn out to be fake news?
President Trump speaks before signing a proclamation

Well, it's time: President Trump's long-heralded Fake News Awards, originally titled (by him) as "The Most Dishonest & Corrupt Media Awards of the Year" and slated for Jan. 8, were rescheduled to take place tonight. Potentially.

Or will the awards be ... fake news?

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders called the awards a "potential event" on Tuesday, inspiring little hope that Trump would follow through on the much hyped (and much mocked) honors despite Trump tweeting that "interest in, and importance of, these awards is far greater than anyone could have anticipated!"

In the event they awards do actually occur: For your consideration, Mr. President, this is OnPolitics Today. Keep up with the latest and subscribe here.

White House: Yeah, we told Bannon not to speak

The White House admitted that it told Steve Bannon to shut up while being questioned by House lawmakers as part of the ongoing Russia investigation on Tuesday. The House Intelligence Committee's top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff, said it effectively became a "gag order" on Trump's former top strategist. White House lawyers eyed Bannon during the 10-hour session, telling him to stay mum based on a claim of executive privilege. "Executive privilege goes back decades because it's something that needs to be protected," Sarah Sanders, the White House spokeswoman, said.

The world's top threats? Nuclear war, cyberattacks and environmental calamity, world leaders say

A survey of 1,000 leaders in business, government, education and more from around the world found nuclear war rocketing up the list of global threats, the result of Trump taunting of North Korea as it continues weapons tests. Topping the World Economic Forum's annual Global Risks Report for a second straight year was Mother Nature, whose hurricanes ravaged the U.S. and Puerto Rico last year. Business leaders in North America worry greatly about cyberattacks, the survey found, including targeted attack that could trigger societal chaos. Have you invested in Bitcoin lately
