Spending on television advertising to influence governors' races has surged past $132.5 million this year as Republicans fight to keep their hold on more than two dozen seats, a USA TODAY analysis shows. Driving the spending is Illinois, where Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner and Democrat J.B. Pritzker, both billionaires, are spending lavishly.
