OnPolitics: Next week is going to be ... a lot

The Democratic ticket is set, the conventions start next week, and Trump is taking his show on the road. Next week is going to be ... a lot
The Democratic ticket is set, the conventions start next week, and Trump is taking his show on the road. Buckle up.

With Kamala Harris officially finalizing the Democratic presidential ticket, all eyes now turn to the business of the conventions.

As you likely now, it's been a bit of a wild ride.

The Democrats were supposed to meet in Milwaukee, but have scaled that plan back dramatically. Now, Harris and presumptive nominee Joe Biden will address the party faithful from Delaware and all Democrats are being urged to stay home.

On the Republican front, the original plan was for the party to convene in Charlotte, N.C. Then, just the business of the convention was going to be there, and the speeches were moved to Florida. But now, the Florida portion was cancelled and President Donald Trump hasn't yet said where he'll be speaking to accept his party's nomination for the second time.

Why all the back and forth? Coronavirus, of course.

First up next week are the Democrats, and we've started to get an idea of what things will look like. Two hours each night of prime time programming. Video messages from a variety of elected officials. Speeches of course from Harris and Biden. And a slew of big name Democrats making an appearance: Barack and Michelle Obama. Hillary Clinton. Bernie Sanders. AOC. Among others.

And Trump has his own counterprogramming planned along with it. Not to mention, his own convention starts the following week.

The president is hitting the road. He's headed to several swing states -- Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Arizona -- and plans to make a pit stop in Biden's hometown of Scranton, Pa.

I'm tired just thinking about it. But we'll have everything you need to know next week, from each corner of the country. Stay tuned. -- Annah Aschbrenner
