This week my colleagues and I on the USA TODAYOpinion team started rolling out an in-depth series on the future of conservatism and where things stand with the Republican Party.
In my first column, I look at whether there is still room in the GOP for traditional conservatives in a world where former President Donald Trump seems to still have a tight grip on the party.
I spoke with many Republican officials and strategists, and the consensus I found is that while there are challenges within the GOP, the party remains the best place for those who hold the conservative principles of individual liberty and limited government.

Much attention is placed on how Republicans are becoming more "extreme," but the same is true within the Democratic Party, as it becomes more controlled by progressives.
I'm excited about our project and look for my next column on the rise of Republican women this weekend. And you can find the pieces we've run thus far (as well as videos and a quiz) on our opinion page. Thanks as always for reading.
