Happy Monday! It's Rebecca Morin, senior national news reporter at USA TODAY.

A peek into who will serve in Trump's administration

President-elect Donald Trump is already building up his new White House and administration. Over the weekend, his appointments were beginning to come into view – as well as what his top priorities will be. He has announced appointments from a "border czar" to his chief of staff. Read more.

Former Immigration Customs Enforcement director Tom Homan will be a part of Trump's administration as the "border czar." Homan oversaw contentious enforcement of border security, including a "zero tolerance" policy that led to separating migrant families.
Stephen Miller, a longstanding adviser, will serve as deputy chief of staff for policy. Miller is credited with shaping Trump's immigration policies, including separating migrant children from their families and a ban on travel from predominantly Muslim countries.
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., was named Trump's nominee for ambassador to the United Nations. Stefanik, a longtime congressional ally, was the president-elect's first cabinet pick after winning the presidential election.

More announcements on who will serve in Trump's administration will come out in the coming days and weeks. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and billionaire Elon Musk – both who were key Trump campaign allies – are expected to be part of Trump's administration.

Burdened by what had been: Kamala Harris couldn't convince voters

Vice President Kamala Harris had not been expecting to run for president until 2028. But with roughly 100 days before the election, the task suddenly fell to her to deliver a victory against Donald Trump. Harris did not intend to rely on the white working-class men who helped put Joe Biden in office. Instead, she turned to suburban women, Black voters and anti-Trump Republicans. But key demographics did not turn out for her with the intensity she needed to win. Read more.

Democrats are soul-searching and blaming each other after Trump's resounding election victory exposed erosion among working-class support for the Democratic Party.
