Trump deportation plan could target as many as 1.1 million people in Florida

President-elect Donald Trump is already laying the groundwork to fulfill one promise he made on the campaign trail: mass deportations. In his current home state of Florida, immigration experts said that about 5% of the state's population – or 1.1 million people – live there without legal permission. The impact on the state's communities, workplaces and economy will depend on how far Trump goes with his plan. Read more.

In Texas, officials in the state are offering Trump a 1,400-acre ranch near the border in South Texas to host a mass deportation facility. Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham said she bought the ranch earlier this year because the previous owner refused to let Texas build a border wall across it.

House Speaker Johnson announces transgender bathroom ban in Capitol 

Rep. Sarah McBride, D-Del., was the first openly transgender person to be elected to Congress this election year. And now, House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., on Wednesday announced a policy banning transgender people from using restrooms in parts of the Capitol that correspond with their gender. The move comes after Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., introduced a resolution Monday that would bar transgender women from using women's restrooms. Read more.
