Hello! Rebecca Morin here. One of my most anticipated movies of next year is "The Odyssey." High school me probably wouldn't believe that because I dreaded reading the epic back then.

Congress weighs spending cuts – including to PBS

Republicans in Congress are taking scissors to some government spending. After lawmakers passed President Donald Trump's signature legislation, they're turning their focus on billions of dollars in spending cuts. The Senate on Wednesday narrowly advanced what's known as a rescission bill, legislation that makes cuts to already approved funding. That includes $1.1 billion earmarked for public broadcasting over the next two years, which includes PBS and NPR. The bill now goes back to the House. If lawmakers don't act on it by Friday, the request will expire and the funding will stay in place. What's next on Congress' agenda.

How will cuts affect local PBS stations? Public media advocates are sounding the alarm on how cuts could jeopardize coverage for rural areas across the country that rely on the programming from PBS. For example, Smoky Hills PBS, based out of Bunker Hill, Kansas, stands to lose roughly half of its budget if Congress passes the cuts. It would be catastrophic for the television station and the more than 1.2 million Kansans it reaches across 71 counties. Residents said they rely on "good, clean, wholesome" content – from "Antiques Roadshow" to "Sesame Street" to high school wrestling as part of the local programming. How one PBS station is navigating potential funding cuts.

Fed chair's future on thin ice

Will he or won't he? Trump on Wednesday denied that he plans to fire Federal Reserve chairman Jerome Powell. But yesterday he told Republican lawmakers he'd likely axe the chair and polled them on what he should do, a senior White House official told USA TODAY. Trump said during an Oval Office meeting with the crown prince of Bahrain that he gets to "make a change in the next eight months or so," in regards to the Fed chair. Trump has criticized Powell – who he appointed to the post in his first term – for not lowering interest rates. What to know about Trump's criticisms of Powell.

Trump wants his supporters to move on from Epstein

Trump doesn't get why his supporters "would be so interested" in the case of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Trump expressed bewilderment as top MAGA voices press for the full release of documents in the government's investigation of the convicted sex offender. Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he doesn't "understand what the interest or what the fascination is." For years, Trump and top members of his administration called for more transparency in Epstein's so-called client list and death. Trump said the Epstein files were "made up" by his political enemies.

Trump called his supporters "weaklings" for their anger over his administration's handling of the Epstein case.
