Nick Carter, a member of the Backstreet Boys, has filed a defamation lawsuit against his rape accuser, seeking $2.5 million in damages. Carter's suit claims Melissa Schuman "falsely accused" him of rape in 2017 in a "thirst for internet relevance." Schuman's initial claim followed a separate sexual battery lawsuit filed against Carter by Shannon Ruth. The musician has denied both allegations in his latest filing and claims that the women conspired with Schuman's dad to extort him. Carter's new cross-complaint alleges that the "defamatory" statements made by Schuman caused him to lose $2.5 million in endorsements. Schuman's lawyers have slammed Carter's lawsuit, claiming "his approach to defend assault claims is to attack the victims."
