Amid the hantavirus outbreak, people are wondering if they should be worried about the potentially deadly illness. Here's what experts say.
A suspected new case of hantavirus was identified by authorities Friday as a British national on a remote island where the MV Hondius made a stop in April.
It's the latest suspected case linked to the cruise ship. As of Thursday, five people were confirmed to have hantavirus, and three others were suspected of contracting it, according to the World Health Organization. Individuals in other countries are not yet considered cases. Three people have died.
Is hantavirus in the U.S.? No. At least five U.S. states have reported passengers who returned from the ship, but there are no hantavirus cases identified within the country thus far.
